BIRTHDAY BOY FUND! Sorry for the lateness of this post but I posted this in the Facebook group and totally forgot to put it in the forum too for those not on Facebook! Anyway here it is: If you would like to contribute please do ASAP (his birthday is at the end of April!) via PayPal to paypal.me/brickpeople and label it "BIRTHDAY BOY!". We will then buy a bunch of LEGO sets for him and get them sent directly to the school! We appreciate any contributions! Thanks guys! Background: This was an enquiry we had recently through the business for a LEGO birthday... "I work in a primary school and am looking at arranging a party for a past pupils 12th birthday. He is Autistic and has life limiting cancer. He is currently undergoing radiotherapy daily at the moment. He was asked what his wish was by Young Lives vs Cancer and he said to see all his friends from when was at our school and to have a birthday party as he has never had one before. So, we have decided that in some way we will give him the birthday party of his dreams! He is Lego obsessed so we’re going with that theme." We are currently trying to help them out with someone that can do such a party, which is almost sorted, but I wondered if we as a LEGO club could do something. I have a few ideas but wondered, maybe we could all chip in a bit of cash and get him an epic LEGO set to unwrap?

After many discussions and investigations with the committee members, which we are grateful for, we have decided not to take the steps towards becoming an RLUG (Recognised LEGO User Group) and will not be in pursuit of the benefits from the LAN (LEGO Ambassador’s Network). While the LAN and RLUGs offer many benefits to their members, it is our general feeling that we want to be more inclusive by allowing in younger audiences (with adult supervision) and would rather not have the responsibility for storing your personal details and regularly reporting back to the LAN. Instead, we aim to break the mould and, with the continued support of our brick business, ‘The BRICK People’, we aim to offer other benefits while keeping your membership cost free of charge. What does this mean for That Brick LUG! Members and committee members? In short, there is little change. Soon, we will rename ‘That Brick LUG!’ to disconnect ourselves from other LUGs and to minimise confusion with the LAN and the typical running of most LUGs. This will include new logo designs and branding. We will continue with the assistance from the committee on all group decisions, as well as expanding the committee to promote more involvement and a better experience for members. Your membership remains free and will have no subscription charge. You do not need to be registered via the website to be included as a member on the Facebook group, however, you will still need to register to join in the forum on the website. If you have already done this, you will not need to do it again. If you wish to host any events or meet-ups, you are more than welcome to! Please keep sharing your events and sign-up forms in Facebook and on the website forums. If you would like some displays featured on behalf of our group, please message us and we will take this into consideration. We do not require any event you host to have charitable connections in order for us, or other members, to attend in any capacity. Our group remains a group for its members, so if you have any ideas or would like to run a challenge, then please do contact us so we can help you get started! How can members benefit from perks given by the LAN There are certain perks the LAN provides to RLUGs and there are many RLUGs around the country. Generally, these are location based, however, you do not need to be in the same district as an RLUG to join. It is more advisable to choose one closer to you so you can attend events and meet-ups easier, though most continue to operate virtual meet-ups as well. While we can name most of them, we have decided not to name any for fairness of all RLUGs. Perks supplied by the LAN are purely for the knowledge of RLUGs and their members, so we can not divulge what these are. Most of the perks can only be claimed once per person, regardless of how many RLUGs you may be in, and most of our members are already in an RLUG, which was a big help in our decision making process. When will these changes happen? We plan to unveil a new name and logo later in the year with a view to the newly designed group being live in January 2023. You do not need to do anything between now and then, and more announcements will follow in due course. Gary & Steve

Some photos from our Denbies Wine Estate event on Sunday! I managed to take these before chaos ensued. Gary Smith might have some more to add! Thank you David Willoughby and James Gage for coming down! Also shout out to member Jen Ballantyne (only in the forums) Andy Hoang and Jonathan Grainger (not a member yet!) for popping down and saying hi. We had a small display area, but Denbies is such a nice venue (with additional LEGO activities upstairs). Our last one for this year with Denbies in Dorking is on the Sunday 6th November. Free lunch from the cafe and an event brick is included. Sign up is available if you wanted to show some stuff with us there next time at https://www.thebrickpeople.co.uk/events/2022/0515/signup. Thanks all! 👍

Hey all in the forum!... for those that are available, please join us to talk, show, or even just listen and watch on Thursday the 9th June from 8pm-9pm, for the next LUG virtual meet. Feel free to drop in any time between 8 and 9 and if you don't wish to talk or be seen, you can always use the text chat option to bring up topics for discussion. The link for Thursday will be the usual one... Also if you want to contribute to the topics for discussion feel free to add in the comments below! Current rough idea: 1. A brief look at some new LEGO releases 2. Arranging an in-person meetup. This was also mentioned by Jen (Redhill based and not on Facebook) after LEGOLAND, and she might not be around on the next call, but it would be good to get an idea of where we could do something, just a bunch of LEGO bricks and good company. 3. Updates on the current That Brick LUG! RLUG registration status. 4. Fun mini-build challenge!
